Graphical Incident Timeline Generation (Real-time & Archived)

Principal Investigator(s): Michael VanDaniker
Current Researchers: None

Project Write-up:

This research is developing methods for visualizing incident data in an interactive, timeline fashion. This tool generates a graphical timeline of incidents from real-time and archived regional TMC data. Data can include the number and type of vehicles involved, lane status, dynamic message sign postings, queue build-up, and weather data. The idea behind this system came from the "LifeLines" patient records management tool developed by the Human-Computer Interaction Lab at the University of Maryland. Our tool allows for the dynamic visualization of on-going incidents and historical incidents. Its current uses include incident management, training, performance evaluations, and incident re-creation. Click on the links below to view sample time-lines and to create your own from historical incidents.
