Since joining the RITIS community in May of 2023, VTrans TMC staff have been actively developing use cases to visualize traffic incident data and its impacts. This work aims to raise awareness of the TMC’s role in traffic incident management leading to faster response times and improved efficiency on the state’s highways.
VTrans wasted no time in deploying RITIS within their TMC. One of their first initiatives was to build out an operations dashboard with a series of real-time speed and travel time indicators for several key corridors throughout the state (photo above). Operations staff have also embraced using RITIS report templates to communicate incident impacts to agency leadership. Responses to the latter have been overwhelming with one VTrans executive reacting, “Absolutely fantastic, and what a story these reports tell.”
